Late Wednesday Link Love: Design Blogs

Book Headboard

Oops, this is a day late. I’ve haven’t been sleeping on the job (in the bed above from Design Every Day) but I wanted to make sure you all saw my post about Alex Nagle and the work he is doing for The Wayside Chapel.

But now it’s back to business and share my favourite design blogs. There are loads out there and for my money, they are the best designed blogs around. No surprises there.

Yellowtrace is my favourite design blog, by Sydneysider Dana Tomic. I had the pleasure of interviewing Dana a few years back and it was great to hear how Yellowtrace had developed in leaps and bounds quickly over the previous six months. A trained and practising interior designer, Dana has a knack of finding design curiosities and beautiful interiors.

The Design Files has been around for a while now and markets itself as Australia’s most popular design blog. Lucy Feagins explores the homes of creative people, which I love, features products I mostly describe as whimsical (ugh, hate that word!) and now seems to be bridging across into art as well.

Design*Sponge is a product and DIY heavy site featuring some awesome little gems, like the Gilded Terracotta Pots, my next home project!

Pinterest. If you aren’t on it, I would almost suggest not signing up as it is such a beautiful time sucker you may possibly become addicted. It’s like having beautiful things delivered to your eyes every day. Bliss.

Desire to Inspire is the work of Kim from Ottawa, Canada and Jo from Brisbane, Australia. They have never met, but found each other via Flickr. I loved their spread of writer Nikki Gemmel’s home, especially her left-handed chair! Love it!

Anna Spiro runs both her blog Absolutely Beautiful Things and Brisbane design store Black & Spiro. I particularly love her appreciation of patterned fabric.

I like interiors that aren’t perfect and Gild and Grace seems to feature spaces that I think, ooh I’d live in that room.

Tina Roth Eisenberg, runs Swiss Miss blog and design studio from New York. Quirky, political and great design.

And the winner of the Everplaces travel apps is “Sharking for Chips and Drinks” for sharing that Laos is the place he can’t wait to travel to. Me too! Send an email to stephaniewilliams_78@hotmail.com to claim your prize Sharking.

Wednesday Link Love: Favourite Travel Blogs

Steph and a Camel

The third instalment in the weekly Wednesday Link Love Favourite Blogs series is Travel Blogs. I love reading travel blogs to get inspiration for upcoming adventures or to relive a place I have already been. The amount of travel blogs are increasing everyday but I have found this collection are the ones I keep going back to.

The photo above was taken in Petra, Jordan by James Marten-Coney of me and my new camel friend. As you can see by my glove wearing, it was freezing!

Terre DeRoche of The Fearful Adventurer has got it sussed…after an epic sea adventure back to Australia with her Argentinean lover, she kept a blog which led to her writing a book, which now is heading to the big screen. She is currently shacked up in Thailand, living the life of an intrepid traveller.

Caz and Craig run YTravel, and share their travel knowledge and practical advice from around the globe. Their podcasts are particularly good, and their kids are pretty cute too!

Brooke vs the World is a fun and honestly written blog by Brooke, an American girl who has found herself in love with an Australian in Sydney. She also runs newsletter Female Travel Underground and Her Packing List website.

Michael Hodson is a former attorney from the US. I like his blog Go See Write for both the content and the design, great layout, which for some travel blogs, can be lacking!

I know I mentioned it my food blog collection a couple of weeks back but I also enjoy Eating Asia from a travel perspective.  One part of the duo is David Hagerman and his travel pics are featured here.

Wanderlust and Lipstick is a travel blog (bordering on website) for women, with a focus on solo female travellers. There are loads of travel stories from women around the globes as well as organised trips to amazing places like Bhutan, Cambodia, Vietnam, Papua New Guinea and Burma.

Wednesday Link Love: Favourite Wine Blogs

Wine blog

Next up in the Wednesday Link Love Favourite Blogs series is Wine. Today I’m sharing a few of the wine blogs I regularly read and enjoy.

Wine Muse is the blog of Sydney wine educator and writer, Lisa Johnston. Her regular ‘Top 5’ lists are a great snapshot of what she is drinking and gives you a reason to indulge.

I always love hearing about the wines author, writer, consultant, and educator (and mate of Jamie Oliver) Matt Skinner enjoys.

This one may not be every person’s cup of tea (or Barolo), but Drinkster is at very least entertaining and full of cartoons (some of which I must admit made me slightly annoyed, but I guess I keep looking at it so what does that say about me???)

Lawyer, Sean Mitchell, like all good lawyers, loves his wine and talks about it on Grape Observer. His descriptions are low fuss and his longer articles are thoughtful.

Winsor Dobbin is a well known wine and travel writer from Tasmania and offers a weekly wine suggestion and travel tips.

I enjoy the perspective Alex McGuigan gives in her AlexMacWine blog. And she ought to know, her family are the McGuigan wine family.

Image from here. Looks bloody fun.
